Government College Madappally, Vadakara

Government College Madappally is situated on a green-clad hillock, 7 Kms north of Vatakara, adjacent to the Arabian Ocean in the West. The campus is rich with greenery, having all the lushness and serenity of a rural retreat. The college was established in 1958 with six decades of glowing academic record, thereafter. It was shifted to a new building with new courses in 1963, marking the first major shift since its beginning. In the meanwhile, the college has become the main hub of higher education in northern Malabar and north Kerala. In 1968, the college was separated from the University of Kerala and affiliated to the University of Calicut. Thereafter, the college has been witnessing a period of steady growth and progress in terms of the in-take of students and the commencement of new academic disciplines.. Initially, the college had just two divisions of pre-university courses. At present, it can boast of 10 UG Programmes, 8 PG Programmes and 4 Research Centres in Humanities, Commerce and Science.

The college is rich with a team of academically qualified and professionally devoted teachers whose service is available in both the fields of academics and research. It is providing additional platforms for the all round development of its pupils through various clubs and forums such as the Nature Club and the Film Club. Now the college is spreading the light of knowledge and wisdom among 1700 students and thereby creating an atmosphere of academic brilliance and cultural dynamism in the area.  It has been the Alma Mater of so many generations since the early 1960s, witnessing the rise and fall of many a socio-cultural movement.
