The Post Graduate Department of History is one of the first departments that established in the very beginning of the college in 1958. History was taught at Pre-University Course, B A course from the inception of the college. There were 10 students in the first batch of B A History students and out of which there was only one girl. Now student strength of the Department is increased to 230. The Department has produced a substantial number responsible citizens and a big community of alumni. The Department has a strong library with having more than 3000 books which cover all specializations in the discipline. The Department has a student library for the exclusive use of students in Post Graduate programme. Further the department has a reading corner called as ‘students’ trap’, where the students do engage in reading periodicals and books related to competitive examinations. Along with that the department proudly owns a Heritage Museum, that have been identified as ‘one of the four strength of the college’ by the NAAC Peer team that visited college in 2019. The museum is showcasing the history in a broader frame with focus on the Megalithic at Vallathukunnu, North Malabar. When it comes to the infrastructure part, four classrooms in the Department are partially smart classrooms with projectors installed. The Department is in the forefront of organizing various academic and extension programmes.
