The Department of Economics is one of the oldest Department in the College. The BA Economics programme was started in the Year 1978 and in 2020 it has been upgraded to a Post graduate Department of Economics. Now the courses offered by the department are BA Economics Programme and MA Economics Programme. The department also offers complementary courses for the students in History and Political Science and also offers open courses for all students in the college.
There are six permanent posts in the department after having upgraded to PG Department. Now the department is having three permanent faculties. The department has been maintaining a good academic excellence for years. The department regularly organizes academic programmes like seminar, workshops etc…The Department also organises carear guidance and personality development programmes for the students.
Around 210 students are studying in the department. Among them more than 80 % of the students are girls. Most of the students are coming from rural areas. The students are having good academic excellence and they are pass out with good results. Most of the Students in the department are actively participating in organising academic and other programmes like NSS, NCC and different club activities in the Department as well as the college. The department maintains an effective tutorial system to foster the relationship between faculties and students.
